Professional Experience

• Served as second-in-command of the division, directing two sections with statewide responsibility.
• Oversaw the Michigan Intelligence Operations Center — a joint MSP, FBI, and Homeland Security intelligence fusion center — along with the 24-hour Operations Watch Center, criminal analysis support to law enforcement, and detectives assigned to federal Joint Terrorism Task Forces.
• Supervised the Violent Crimes Unit (homicide investigation support and criminal profiling) and Field Support functions, including Aviation, K-9, the Emergency Support Team (SWAT), Underwater Recovery, Computer Crimes, Identity Theft, Methamphetamine Investigation, Tobacco Tax, and Bridge Card (food assistance) fraud units.

• Supervised 15 multi-jurisdictional drug enforcement teams operating across the state.

• Commanded troopers conducting general law enforcement and patrol duties across two counties.

• Supervised four multi-jurisdictional drug teams and one surveillance team.

• Commanded the Straits Area Narcotics Enforcement (SANE) drug investigation team.
• Commanded the Upper Peninsula Substance Enforcement Team (Marquette County).
• Commanded the State Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Otsego County).

Notable Assignments & Special Projects

• Asset Forfeiture & Drug Team Review (2009–2010) — Reviewed three years of civil-forfeiture seizures and administrative procedures across all State Police drug teams and special enforcement units; reported findings to the MSP Director and Executive Council and revised the MSP official order governing forfeiture.
• New Mexico State Police Review (2008) — Member of a four-person team that evaluated the New Mexico State Police Narcotics Unit’s structure, operating policy, and personnel practices; authored the findings and recommendations delivered to the NMSP Director.
• Trooper-Homicide Manhunt (2003) — Served as Incident Commander and authored the after-action report for the manhunt and apprehension of a right-wing extremist who murdered a Michigan state trooper.
• Methcathinone Enforcement Coordination (1992–1995) — Led the MSP response to methcathinone: authored the issue report and recommendations for a joint DEA / MSP effort, oversaw MSP participation in the joint task force, produced a law enforcement training video, and presented on Michigan’s methcathinone problem at an international conference in Washington, D.C.
